1. What made you decide to have Weight Loss Surgery?
I’d always battled with my weight & was so tired from yo-yo dieting & constantly having it on my mind “how could I lose weight”, “I can’t lose weight”, “I’m so fat, unhappy & uncomfortable”. After a close friend has the surgery we talked about it more & I decided it was the right path for me to take.

2. What was your weight prior to your WLS? And what’s the goal?
Highest weight ever probably around 115kg. Pre-op I started at 105.2. Today I’m at 78.2kg & want to get to around 70kg.

3. Did you get to the weight you wanted?
Not yet but still working on it only 9 months post op.

4. How do you feel now that you have had the surgery?
So much better. I’m the lightest I’ve been in a really long time. Everything is easier, I have more energy & I’m running 3 x per week.

5. Were there any problems along the way?
I’ve had no problems at all from the surgery. Still have moments where the restriction doesn’t feel like it’s there & I am uncomfortable post eating. And on the rare occasion something doesn’t sit right at all & I have to bring it up.

6. Would you do it again now that you know what you know?
Absolutely.

7. What are the inspiring things you can think of that you have noticed along the way?
It’s the NSV’s that stand out for me. Not taking up too much space on public transport seats, sitting comfortably in a plane seat, wearing smaller sizes & being comfortable to pick those out in the store. Participating in a running program to run 10km.

8. Did you have some happy unexpected surprises?
Definitely the energy & the rapid increase of my fitness & running capability.

9. What advice do you have for anyone preparing for WLS?
Don’t get too in your head about it. There’s a lot of information out there! Best thing I did was create a separate Instagram profile & the community I’ve joined with that has been amazing & so supportive.

10. What is the one very best thing that has resulted from your surgery? What has been the hardest part of your journey?
My increasing acceptance of me & my body.
Hardest part has been frustration when the scale hasn’t moved & the slowing of the loss. Also the mental processing & understanding of everything. I see a new psychologist this week to commence that side of the process & try to work through some of my habits & how I can unpack & undo these.

11. What products to use from us? And how has it helped you through your journey?
Multivitamins! They’re so key to this whole journey! Your pill container is great for travel too!
