1. What made you decide to have wls surgery?
Mostly to help manage my severe endometriosis, as my weight was making surgery difficult. Also, to help with my chronic pain. I had tried many diets, plus a lap band, with no success, and needed extra help.
2. What was your weight prior to your WLS, and... What’s the goal?
152kgs and my goal is 90kgs at the moment. I'm 6 foot and have a large frame, so would be very happy at 90kgs.
3. Did you get to the weight you wanted?
I am 13 months post op and 5.3kgs from my goal.
4. How do you feel now that you have had the surgery?
It was the best decision I ever made. I understand food for fuel, and my pain is so much better.
5. Were there any problems along the way?
Just my Gallbladder flaring up, getting infected, and needing to be taken out.
6. Would you do it again now that you know what you know?
Absolutely.
7. What are some of the inspiring things you can think of that you have noticed along the way?
I have found that weighloss surgery isn't as taboo as first thought and people are super supportive.
8. Did you have some happy unexpected surprises?
How much more energy I have.
9. What advice do you have for anyone preparing for surgery?
Learn your food triggers. Stay hydrated. Don't look at this like "another diet" because it's not (you can still have cake!!) Start to view food as fuel and find ways to keep your meals interesting by trying new recipes and sharing them.
10. What is the one very best thing that has resulted from your surgery? What has been the hardest part of your journey?
My pain is so much better, I didn't realise how much was weight related. The hardest part personally is curving my sweet tooth (which I do with fruit, yoghurt, and sugarfree options)
